Gene therapy developed in Kuopio approved by the FDA
Ferring Pharmaceuticals received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for Adstiladrin, a new, first-of-its-kind bladder cancer gene therapy.
Adstiladrin has been approved for the treatment of adult patients with high-risk BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. The development of the novel gene therapy product started in the 1990s in Kuopio, and the approval comes after decades of research.
The product will be manufactured by FinVector in Kuopio, and it is a major milestone for the company as well as the Finnish gene therapy research community.
