15 million euros of EU funding granted for a joint project of European gene therapy research centers

The EU’s Horizon Europe programme has granted 15 million euros in funding for the GeneT project, which aims to enhance advanced manufacturing and use of gene therapy drugs in the academic environment. The duration of the project is six years, and it is coordinated by Professor Luis Pereira de Almeida at the University of Coimbra.

The project is an international collaboration between the Coimbra Hospital and University Centre in Portugal, the National Virus Vector Laboratory led by the GeneCellNano Flagship director Professor Seppo Ylä-Herttuala at the A. I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences in the University of Eastern Finland, and the Gene Therapy Innovation and Manufacturing Centre led by Professor Mimoun Azzouz at the University of Sheffield in the UK.
